EPFR data showed that, as of mid-February, weekly inflows to China equity stocks have been above the recent average. Net inflows to China equity funds is around $45.7 billion so far this year, more than half the net inflow of $77.56 billion for all of 2023.

Bank of America said in its weekly roundup of fund flows in and out of world markets citing EPFR data, that flows to cash were running at an annualized rate of $1.3 trillion in the first weeks of 2024 through to February 21.

Reuters – At last, FOMO puts Japan’s stocks back on global wishlist
Global ex-US stock funds are underweight Japan to the tune of 4%, according to data provider EPFR. Pacific regional funds are underweight Japan by 8% as of December 2023.

China Securities Journal – MSCI announced the results of its quarterly review and included 4 new A-share targets
The latest data released by EPFR, shows that inflows into Chinese equity funds surged in early February. In the week ending February 9, China equity funds broke the record set in the third quarter of 2015 for weekly inflows, attracting more than $19 billion in a single week.

Caixin – Hong Kong stocks have risen for three consecutive days in the Year of the Dragon, will the resumption of A-shares on Monday get off to a good start?

Those investing in junk bonds saw inflows jump to $2.373 billion from $411 million the prior week, TD Securities said in a report, citing EPFR data.

Reuters – US stock buyback plans picking up in earnings season, EPFR says
Companies have announced an average of $6.9 billion worth of buybacks daily through the first three weeks of the fourth-quarter reporting season, according to EPFR Liquidity Offerings, which tracks buyback announcements from companies listed on U.S. exchanges. That is the highest amount at this stage in an earnings season since the $8.2 billion daily average from the first-quarter 2023 reporting period, while it is also above the $6.5 billion daily average of the past 12 periods.

Active bond funds have put 50 cents to work in India for every dollar they pulled from China since 2022, according to EPFR data.

Reuters – US credit issuance breaking records as healthy economy emboldens investors
For the week ended January 31, inflows into funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) investing in investment-grade bonds flipped to an outflow of $1.702 billion from an inflow of $3.298 billion in the prior week. Those investing in junk bonds saw inflows jump to $2.373 billion from $411 million the prior week, TD Securities said in a report, citing EPFR data.

Investors ploughed $20.1 billion into stocks in the week to Wednesday, a report from Bank of America citing data from EPFR said on Friday, rounding off a strong month for equities driven once again by rallying tech shares.
